Step 1.
It starts with you. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, or teacher I encourage you to start your own somatic healing journey now. Our children attune to our nervous system and the more regulated we are, the more regulated they will be. Step 2.
Download my FREE app. Search your app store for “Dr. Melrose’s Toolkit” and use the notification feature to set daily reminders to practice the 60 Seconds Fix and VOO exercise to increase vagal tone and develop nervous system regulation.
Step 3.
Check out the books below. Start with You Can Heal Your Child, Hope & Healing and The 60 Seconds Fix. They are quick and easy reads that will provide you with the basic psychoeducation you need to understand what is going on in your child’s brain and nervous system and how you can provide them optimum support and resourcing. The Hope & Healing Activities Book contains numerous activities to help your child tap into their resources, strengths, and resiliencies. Why Students Underachieve: What Educators and Parents Can Do about It is a deeper dive providing case examples and research about effective and easy-to-use tools that can be implemented immediately with stressed or traumatized children in order to first, do no harm, and second, provide them with a real chance for a promising future.
Step 4.
Continue educating yourself with Dr. Reggie’s recorded trainings. Both Optimizing the Developing Brain and Dr. Reggie’s Parenting Talk are a must watch for any parent. These trainings are packed with information about our children’s developing nervous system and how parents can best support that development. The Teen Anxiety Series, while developed for teens is a great resource for parents and caregivers as well. If you have an adolescent or teen in your home, you may want to invite them to watch it with you!
