SELF-REGULATION TRAINING™ FOR HEALING STRESS & TRAUMA

This 1-Year Certification Program is for the following people who want an in-depth understanding of how to heal the effects of stress and trauma most effectively:

With this training, expect to master the use of Dr. Reggie’s tools and to gain an enlightened understanding of the do’s and don’ts for healing. The requirements for certification in the Melrose Healing Method™ are listed below:

  1. Attendance and full participation in 3 training modules throughout the 1 year with each module occurring on a Thursday all day (9-5), Friday morning (8-12), and Sunday all day (9-5). The dates for 2018 are the following: Module 1, January 17, 18, 20, 2019; Module 2, April 4, 5, 7, 2019; Module 3, September 13, 14, 16, 2019;
  2. Full participation in regular group Zoom (online) consultations throughout the year with Dr. Reggie; a minimum attendance of 6 group sessions is necessary for certification;
  3. Six personal healing sessions with either Dr. Reggie or her excellent and experienced assistants. Please note that Dr. Reggie’s hourly rate for sessions is 200 dollars. Her assistants charge significantly less.

is $4500.00 to be paid in 3 installments of $1500.00 due approximately 30 days prior to each module.

Dr. Reggie’s method for wellness is the result of the simplification and practical application of many sources that have equally played a role in shaping how she works. Those many sources include:

  1. Training as both an undergraduate and graduate student at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she earned a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree;
  2. Post-doctoral training in Somatic Experiencing with Dr. Peter Levine;
  3. Training with her personal somatic therapist and cranial-sachral healer, Stephen Sova;
  4. Training as an educator in private & public pre-K through 12th -grade schools, and as a University Professor;
  5. Training as a parent with her greatest teacher, now 11-year-old Jules Kessler (Dr. Reggie’s son);
  6. The important influences of current neuroscience, metaphysics, and meditation.

What to expect in the first module, January 17, 18, 20 2019:

Training Day One:

  • Understand the neuroscience behind the development of Dr. Reggie’s evidence-based tools, as well as the important difference between “being” and “doing.”
  • Learn how to begin the transformative process of “being” different.
  • Witness Dr. Reggie providing a demonstration of the work in action with a participant of the training.
  • Practice with other participants while Dr. Reggie and her assistants coach the development of skills.

Training Day Two:

  • The most important do’s and don’ts of how, and how not, to use these tools.
  • Understand how 60 Seconds is different from meditation, relaxation, somatic experiencing and other common tools.
  • Learn how to use Dr. Reggie’s resources to support making her tools and method as practically useful as possible.
  • Witness Dr. Reggie providing a demonstration of the work in action with a participant of the training.
  • Practice with other participants while Dr. Reggie and her assistants coach the development of skills.

Training Day Three

  • Understand the powerful role of shame and the need for its alleviation in the process of healing the effects of stress and trauma.
  • Learn how to focus on the development of resources and new neural pathways for wellbeing in spite of the extreme stresses we face.
  • Witness Dr. Reggie providing a demonstration of the work in action with a participant of the training.
  • Practice with other participants while Dr. Reggie and her assistants coach the development of skills.

This is going to be a very intimate experience with hands on coaching by Dr. Reggie. You can expect as much individualized attention as possible. Dr. Reggie will be sure to answer all of your most pressing questions.

SELF-REGULATION TRAINING

 

Self-Regulation Training (SRT), known to some as the Melrose Healing Method, is a quiet, naturalistic way of healing the effects of stress and trauma. It is the unique result of the merging of my training as an Ivy-league educated Psychologist, certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), years of study of current neuroscience, metaphysics, and meditation, as well as personal life experiences.
 
Somatic Experiencing (SE), the short-term trauma-healing approach developed by Dr. Peter Levine (www.traumahealing.com), has been a great influence on my method. In the 18 years since my SE certification, I have adapted SE to meet the needs of my clientele through a natural and gradual process of simplification. My own personal recovery from the effects of trauma and addiction, and the 27 years I’ve been an educator and healer, have allowed my work to become simpler with far better results.

SRT, like SE, recognizes the limits of talk therapy and other treatment modalities that use catharsis and other activating techniques in order to “discharge” stressful or traumatic material. Such stimulating techniques may offer temporary relief, but their benefits are rarely long-term. These more activating approaches, in their lack of a complete understanding of the impact of stress and trauma on the brain, can overwhelm the nervous system and re-traumatize rather than heal.
 
Like SE, SRT helps “renegotiate” patterns of arousal and anxiety by carefully supporting the body’s natural ability to release over-activation. By combining and interweaving elements of stress and trauma with strengths and resources, a new, complete and more empowering experience is created, thus creating new, more powerful neural pathways in the brain. This is when clients begin to notice a new and greater repertoire of emotional and behavioral choices. They move from being stuck in rage, helplessness, and anxiety to a fluid experience of empowerment, peace, and resiliency thereby strengthening and building resistance to future stress and trauma.
 
Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, a leading medical doctor, scientific researcher, and teacher at Harvard Medical Center stated that the effects of stress and trauma rob people of their capacity to “be here.” He went on to say, that “verbal meaning-making is a secondary part of what patients need to benefit from.” What they need more primarily is to be helped to “move through physical experience and gain the mastery that traditional psychotherapy [has been] unable to help people with. Therapy needs to consist of helping people to be in their bodies and to understand their bodily sensations. And that is certainly not something that any of the traditional psychotherapies have helped people to do very well.” This is something Self-Regulation Training (SRT) does very well.
